We are here to celebrate India’s 77th Independence Day. Today we remember how our beloved country got its Independence from the British Raj. We honor the freedom fighters who fought bravely to make our country Independent.
Our country was dependent on sometime before today. The British used to rule here and we were their slaves. Our country became independent on August 15, 1947. After becoming independent, Independence Day started being celebrated in our country every year from the next year.
Independence Day is our national festival. That’s why every year Independence Day is celebrated in our school also. The collective singing of the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ begins. As soon as this singing ends, slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ are raised.
On this occasion, the country’s biggest program takes place at the Red Fort in Delhi. The Prime Minister of the country hoists the flag and then after the national anthem, the Prime Minister gives a message to the people of India. This message is broadcast on radio and television. All the prominent leaders of the country and guests from abroad are also present on this occasion.
Cultural programs are organized at various places on this occasion. Kavi Sammelan is organized. This festival is our national festival which reminds us of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country. Drama is also organized in some places. Like religious festivals, it is celebrated with great pomp throughout the country. The feeling of patriotism fills the hearts of people all over the country.

आदरणीय प्रधानाचार्य, प्रिय शिक्षक, माननीय न्यायाधीश, और मित्रो,
हम यहां भारत का 77वां स्वतंत्रता दिवस मनाने आए हैं। आज हमें याद है कि कैसे हमारे प्यारे देश को ब्रिटिश राज से आजादी मिली थी। हम उन स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों का सम्मान करते हैं जिन्होंने हमारे देश को स्वतंत्र कराने के लिए बहादुरी से लड़ाई लड़ी।
आज से कुछ समय पहले हमारा देश पराधीन था । यहाँ अंग्रेज राज करते थे और हम उनके गुलाम बने हुए थे। 15 अगस्त सन् 1947 ई. को हमारा देश स्वतंत्र हो गया। स्वतंत्र हो जाने के बाद अगले वर्ष से प्रत्येक वर्ष हमारे देश में स्वतंत्रता दिवस मनाया जाने लगा ।
स्वतंत्रता दिवस हमारा राष्ट्रीय त्योहार है। इस अवसर पर देश का सबसे बड़ा कार्यक्रम दिल्ली में लाल किले पर होता है। देश के प्रधानमंत्री झण्डोत्तोलन करते हैं और तव राष्ट्रगान के बाद प्रधानमंत्री भारत की जनता के नाम संदेश देते हैं। इस संदेश का प्रसारण रेडियो और टेलीविजन पर होता है। इस अवसर पर देश के सभी प्रमुख नेता और विदेश के अतिथि भी सम्मिलित रहते हैं ।
इस अवसर पर जगह-जगह सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम का आयोजन होता है । कवि सम्मेलन का आयोजन किया जाता है । यह त्योहार हमारा राष्ट्रीय त्योहार है जो हमें अपने देश की आजादी के लिए कुर्बान होने वाले शहीदों की याद दिलाता है। कहीं-कहीं नाटक का भी आयोजन होता है। पूरे देश में यह धार्मिक त्योहारों की भाँति बहुत धूम-धाम से मनाया जाता है। पूरे देश में लोगों के मन में देश-भक्ति की भावना भर जाती है ।
